Questions for immediate colleagues

  1. What’s the biggest priority for the team right now? OR Why is this role open?
  2. What’s the biggest challenge for someone stepping into this role?
  3. What a typical day is like?
  4. Is the product live in production? If not, what's the schedule for developing it? (Particularly valid for early stage & stealth startups)
  5. How often are releases done?
  6. Do you have a favorite part of the job? Least favorite?
  7. Budget for conferences.
  8. Learning opportunities.

Questions for Founders/HRs

  1. List of tools that are absolutely necessary for the job (check for documentation tools, tools that require you to be available online all the time).
  2. Explain how the process for resolving a team dispute would look like?
  3. Is there any micro-management?
  4. Are employees psychologically safe?
  5. Ask about last employee who left or got laid-off, what was the reason?
  6. How often feedback is given to you and collected from you?
  7. KPIs for employees OR How managers/senior folks help coach employees through a weakness.
  8. How does the org. structure look like?
  9. What types of skills is the team missing that you’re looking to fill with a new hire?
