Overlay Trademark Policy
May 27, 2026 ยท View on GitHub
The Overlay name, logos, hosted domains, product trade dress, and related brand assets identify LayerNorm Inc. products and services. Open source licenses in this repository do not grant trademark rights.
Allowed Uses
You may use the Overlay name to:
- Refer truthfully to the unmodified Overlay project.
- Link to the official Overlay repository, docs, or website.
- State that your software is compatible with Overlay.
- Describe that your fork is based on Overlay, as long as the fork is clearly identified as independent.
Not Allowed
Without written permission, you may not:
- Market a modified distribution as "Overlay" or as an official Overlay product.
- Use Overlay logos, icons, domains, or confusingly similar branding for a fork, hosted service, app, extension, or commercial offering.
- Imply endorsement, certification, partnership, or support by LayerNorm Inc.
- Register domains, package names, app-store listings, social handles, or company/product names that are likely to confuse users about the source of the software.
Forks And Modified Distributions
Modified distributions should use their own product name, logo, domains, and visual identity. They may include a factual notice such as "Based on Overlay" if the notice is not the primary product branding and does not imply endorsement.
