Terminal Workspace is a multi-project desktop workspace for developers who run many local terminal processes across several repos.

It is not trying to replace shells, terminal emulators, or terminal-native multiplexers. It is a project-aware control surface around them.

When Terminal Workspace Fits

Use Terminal Workspace when you want:

  • One visual sidebar for multiple local repos.

When Another Tool May Fit Better

Use another tool when you want:

  • The lightest possible native terminal window: Terminal or iTerm2.
  • Terminal-native remote session workflows: tmux, Zellij, or WezTerm.
  • A shell replacement or AI-first command prompt experience: Warp or another AI terminal.
  • A native-only macOS implementation: a Swift/AppKit terminal workspace may be a better fit.

Design Boundary

Terminal Workspace intentionally keeps PTY creation explicit. Restored terminals come back as stopped metadata until the user starts them. This avoids fake running states and reduces startup pressure when a workspace contains many saved terminals.
