Trademark Policy

August 27, 2026 · View on GitHub

The Engram names and logos identify the official project and its maintainers. This policy explains their permitted use; it does not change the MIT license for the software.

Covered marks

Alan Buscaglia owns the trademarks Engram, Engram Cloud, and engram when they are used as project or CLI identifiers, together with the associated Engram logos.

This policy does not claim ownership of the ordinary dictionary meaning of “engram.”

Software license

The project's software is available under the MIT License. That license grants copyright permissions for the code; it does not grant permission to use project names or logos in a way that implies endorsement, sponsorship, or official affiliation.

Permitted references

You may make truthful, nominative references to Engram, link to the official project, and make factual statements that a product is based on or compatible with Engram. These references must not be misleading or imply a relationship that does not exist.

Forks and modified distributions

Modified distributions and forks must use distinct primary names and branding. They may truthfully state that they are based on or compatible with Engram, provided that the statement does not imply that the distribution is official, sponsored, endorsed, certified, or partnered.

Permission required

Prior written permission from Alan Buscaglia is required to:

  • use the marks or logos in a way that implies official status, sponsorship, endorsement, certification, or partnership; or
  • use a confusingly similar project name, logo, company name, product name, package name, or domain name.

Logos and brand assets

The official logos and associated brand assets identify the official Engram project. Do not use them as your own primary branding, modify them in a confusing way, or present them in a way that suggests an unapproved relationship. This policy addresses trademark and brand use only; it does not make a claim about the copyright provenance of individual assets.

Sponsors and partners

A sponsorship or partnership does not authorize use beyond this policy or prior written permission. Sponsors and partners may not buy hidden paid rankings, technical recommendations, default selections, or endorsements.

This policy does not restrict uses allowed by applicable law, including fair use and other lawful nominative uses. It does not claim that any mark is registered.
