DeepSeek Harness Desktop is an independent, open-source Windows desktop distribution built from DeepSeek Harness. It packages the complete Harness Web interface, local agent runtime, native directory picker, and supervised backend into one Electron application.

This community distribution is not an official DeepSeek desktop release. The upstream Harness architecture and package sources remain attributed to DeepSeek AI under the MIT license.

The installer is not code-signed. Windows SmartScreen may display an unknown-publisher warning. Verify the SHA-256 digest before running the installer.

Aqua workspace

The Aqua plugin applies the glass appearance across the frameless desktop window while keeping workspace navigation, the composer, Cost Meter cards, and native window controls usable.

The Cost Meter settings show current pricing periods, daily and monthly totals, per-session usage, budgets, balances, and history in one view.

Phone browser access

Phone Access provides an authenticated LAN QR code and an independently controlled temporary public tunnel. The access credential is removed from this public screenshot.

Third-party projects retain their original authorship and licenses. The phone-access workflow was informed by dsh-pocket, but this repository does not include or copy dsh-pocket source code. See THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md for the generated dependency inventory and license texts.

First run

1. Install and open DeepSeek Harness Desktop.
2. Choose a workspace folder.
3. Open Settings → Models, enter a DeepSeek API key, and save it.
4. Start a conversation in the selected workspace.

Provider credentials are stored below the application's per-user Harness data directory. The renderer receives only redacted credential descriptors; see the provider guide for supported providers and storage behavior.

Run from source

Requirements:

pnpm run desktop builds the repository and starts the desktop application. For the browser-only development path, run pnpm dsh web.

Package the application

desktop:pack creates an unpacked Windows application. desktop:dist creates the interactive NSIS installer under dist-desktop-installer/. Packaging details and smoke-test entry points live in the desktop package reference.

Security model

The renderer has Node integration disabled, context isolation and Chromium sandboxing enabled, and permission requests denied. Navigation is restricted to the loading document and the exact loopback Harness origin. External HTTP and HTTPS links open in the operating-system browser.

The core Harness server listens only on 127.0.0.1. This prevents direct remote network exposure but does not authenticate against another process running as the same Windows user.

Phone Access is a separate, authenticated proxy and is disabled by default. Enabling its master switch creates a LAN listener; enabling public access additionally starts a temporary Cloudflare Quick Tunnel. The QR code and pairing URL contain a random access credential: share them only with intended users, do not forward them, and turn Phone Access off when it is no longer needed. Harness credentials remain on the desktop and are not sent to the phone browser.

Current limitations

• Windows x64 is the only packaged target.
• The installer has no publisher certificate or automatic updater.
• Cloudflare Quick Tunnel URLs are temporary and availability is not guaranteed; restarting public access invalidates the previous URL.
• The real-directory plugin layout produces a large, inspectable installation because Harness profile Junctions cannot target packages inside an ASAR virtual filesystem.
• The project follows the upstream developer-preview compatibility policy and may contain breaking changes between releases.
