Pre-Build Verification

Before attempting to build, verify:

✅ .vscode/ folder exists with 5 files
✅ CMakePresets.json exists
✅ docs/INDEX.md exists
✅ Can access Ctrl+Shift+B task dropdown
✅ Can access F5 debug launcher

⚠️ NOT YET DONE: ZLIB installation (see DEPENDENCIES.md)

After ZLIB Installation

Once you've installed ZLIB:

  1. Clear build folder:

    Remove-Item build -Recurse -Force

  2. Configure CMake:

    cmake -B build -G "MinGW Makefiles" -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug

  3. Build:

    cmake --build build -j4

Success Indicators

✅ Setup is complete when:

  • All files exist in workspace
  • .vscode/ folder shows 5 configuration files
  • Ctrl+Shift+B displays task dropdown
  • F5 displays debug configurations
  • Documentation files are readable

✅ Build is ready when:

  • ZLIB is installed (from DEPENDENCIES.md)
  • CMake configuration succeeds
  • Ctrl+Shift+B → Build Debug completes

✅ Fully functional when:

  • Ctrl+Shift+B → Build & Run Debug launches app
  • F5 → Debug LibMan starts debugger
  • All compilation succeeds without errors

Troubleshooting Checks

Task dropdown not showing?

→ Reload VS Code: Ctrl+Shift+P → "Developer: Reload Window"

Build fails immediately?

→ Check DEPENDENCIES.md for ZLIB installation

Executable not found?

→ Ensure build succeeds first: Ctrl+Shift+B → Build Debug

Debug won't start?

→ Check .vscode/launch.json for correct paths

Final Checklist

  • All 14+ files created
  • .vscode/ has 5 configuration files
  • docs/ folder structure exists
  • ZLIB installed (from DEPENDENCIES.md)
  • CMake configuration successful
  • First build attempted successfully
  • App runs successfully
  • Debugging works

Once all checkboxes are complete, you're 100% ready!
