Installation Guide for MCP Tools Py

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.11 or higher
  • pip (Python package installer)
  • git (for development installation)

Installation Methods

Method 1: Install from PyPI (When Available)

Configuration

After installation, you need to configure MCP Tools Py for your preferred client.

Claude Desktop Configuration

  1. Locate your Claude Desktop configuration file:

    • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
    • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
    • Linux: ~/.config/claude/claude_desktop_config.json

  2. Add the MCP Tools Py configuration:

Troubleshooting Installation

Command Not Found

If mcp-tools-py command is not found after installation:

  1. Check installation location:

    pip show mcp-tools-py

  2. Check if scripts were installed:

    ls $(python -m site --user-base)/bin/  # Unix/macOS
dir $(python -m site --user-base)\Scripts\  # Windows

  3. Use Python module as fallback:

    python -m mcp_tools_py --help

Permission Errors

If you get permission errors during installation:

# Option 1: Use --user flag
pip install --user mcp-tools-py

# Option 2: Use virtual environment (recommended)

Import Errors

If you get import errors when running the command:

Testing the Installation

You can test the MCP server using the MCP Inspector:

For Installed Package

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector mcp-tools-py --project-dir /path/to/project

For Development Mode

Uninstallation

To remove MCP Tools Py:

# Clean up cache (optional)
