Our Pledge

The QuantRS2 project is committed to providing a welcoming and productive environment for every contributor, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of technical experience, education, socioeconomic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

We pledge to act and interact in ways that build an open, welcoming, and respectful community. We understand that a healthy project depends not only on good code, but also on clear communication and mutual respect among all participants.

Our Standards

Expected Behaviors

The following behaviors create a positive environment for everyone:

  • Offering and receiving constructive feedback graciously; focusing criticism on ideas rather than people
  • Acknowledging and learning from mistakes; moving forward without blame
  • Accepting that others may hold different technical opinions; engaging with those opinions on their merits
  • Prioritizing the long-term health of the project and its community over short-term individual preference
  • Showing patience with contributors who are learning; helping rather than dismissing
  • Respecting the time of maintainers and reviewers by providing clear context in issues and pull requests

Unacceptable Behaviors

The following behaviors are not tolerated in any project space:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination of any kind, in any form
  • Insults, derogatory comments, or personal attacks directed at contributors
  • Sustained disruption of discussions, reviews, or community spaces (trolling)
  • Publishing private information about another person without their explicit consent (doxing)
  • Unwanted sexual attention or advances
  • Dismissing or belittling contributions based on the contributor's background or identity rather than the technical substance
  • Retaliatory behavior toward anyone who reports a conduct concern

Enforcement Responsibilities

Project maintainers are responsible for clarifying and upholding these standards. They have the authority to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, issues, pull requests, and other contributions that do not align with this Code of Conduct. Maintainers will communicate the reasons for moderation decisions when appropriate.

Maintainers who do not follow this Code of Conduct in good faith may face consequences as determined by other members of the project leadership.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all project spaces, including the GitHub repository, issue tracker, pull request discussions, and any official communication channels.

It also applies when an individual is publicly representing the project, for example when using an official project email address, posting via an official social media account, or acting as a designated representative at a public event.

Reporting Violations

If you experience or witness behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it by email to:

Include as much relevant context as you are comfortable sharing: what happened, when and where, and who was involved. All reports will be reviewed promptly and handled with confidentiality to the extent possible. The identity of reporters will not be disclosed without their consent.

Enforcement Guidelines

Maintainers follow these four levels when determining consequences for a confirmed violation:

Level 1 — Correction

For: Minor violations such as inadvertently insensitive language or a single instance of unprofessional behavior.

Response: A private, written explanation of why the behavior was inappropriate, along with guidance on how to engage more constructively. No public record is created.

Level 2 — Warning

For: A more serious single violation or a pattern of minor violations after a Level 1 correction has been issued.

Response: A formal written warning specifying the behavior, why it is unacceptable, and the conditions for continued participation. The individual may be asked to refrain from interacting with those affected for a specified period. Continued violations after a warning may escalate to a temporary ban.

Level 3 — Temporary Ban

For: Sustained or egregious conduct that is incompatible with a respectful community, or failure to comply with the conditions of a formal warning.

Response: A temporary ban from all public project communication channels and contribution forums. The length of the ban is proportional to the severity of the behavior. Returning after a ban requires agreement to abide by this Code of Conduct.

Level 4 — Permanent Ban

For: A demonstrated pattern of violations across multiple incidents, severe harassment or discrimination, or any conduct that fundamentally threatens the safety and well-being of community members.

Response: Permanent removal from all project spaces and contribution rights. This decision is final.

Attribution

This Code of Conduct was written for the QuantRS2 project and is informed by widely adopted community standards for open-source projects. It reflects the values of COOLJAPAN OU (Team Kitasan) in building respectful, high-quality technical communities.
