The DA-100 Exam is intended to replace the old MCP Exam 70-778: Analyzing and Visualizing Data with Microsoft Power BI. This was originally scheduled to retire by June 30, 2020. However due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Situation, Microsoft extended the retirement date by 7 months, thereby allowing candidates to still take the 70-778 Exam till January 31, 2021.
This decision doesn't affect the DA-100 Exam, which was officially launched in April 2020 and will likely be in Beta till at least May 31, 2020. This provides candidates with a choice of either taking the new DA-100 or the old 70-778 till January 31, 2021. Given the popularity of the role-based Certifications, it should be a fairly simply decision ;-)
