Overview
ClaudeOps is an autonomous server administration system powered by Claude Code that:
- Monitors server health every 2 hours via cron
- Performs boot recovery checks via systemd
- Logs all activity to GitHub
- Provides slash commands for manual operations
Target OS: Ubuntu 24.04 (tested), 22.04+ and Debian (should work) Required Access: Root/sudo privileges Installation Time: ~20-30 minutes Skills Required: Basic Linux system administration
Prerequisites
1. System Requirements

Step 1: Create Users

Troubleshooting
Issue: "claude: command not found"
Cause: NVM not loaded or PATH not set

Known Limitations (Docker Container Testing)
The following could NOT be fully validated in Docker container testing:
- Systemd service execution - Service file created and syntax validated, but cannot test actual execution without init system
- Cron daemon execution - Cron file created and syntax validated, but cannot test scheduled execution
- SSH access - User shell configured correctly, but requires sshd to test
- Claude Code functionality - Requires valid ANTHROPIC_API_KEY to test actual AI responses
- Boot recovery execution - Script created and tested for syntax, but requires actual system reboot
These features should be tested on a full VM or physical server after installation.

Security Considerations

API Key Storage: The ANTHROPIC_API_KEY is stored in environment variables. Ensure only authorized users can read these.

GitHub Token: If stored in
/opt/claudeops/.github-token, file is set to 400 (read-only by root). Keep this secure. -
SSH Access: The claudeops user has direct shell access to Claude. Limit SSH access to trusted IPs.

Sudo Access: Scripts run as claude user for health checks (no sudo) and as root for boot recovery (full sudo). Review scripts before running.

Log Directory: Logs in
/var/log/claudeops/may contain sensitive information. Owned by claude user.
