v0.29 (unreleased)
- [added] GPU presentation on Linux/Wayland through EGL/GLES2. The buffer is uploaded and scaled on the GPU, so the per-frame cost tracks your buffer size rather than the window size. Falls back to the existing software scaler whenever EGL is unavailable, or when the only renderer on offer is a CPU rasteriser such as llvmpipe. Scaling samples at destination pixel centres, like the macOS GPU path, so a scaled window can pick a source pixel up to half a destination pixel later than the software scaler does; 1:1 blits and whole-number scale factors are unaffected.
- [added]
WindowOptions::use_gpu(UseGPU::Autoby default,UseGPU::Disabledto force the software path). Only the Wayland backend reads it; X11, macOS and Windows scale in software regardless. - [fixed] The Linux/BSD software scaler stepped a 10.10 fixed-point ratio, which quantises the step to 1/1024 and drifts on non-integer scale factors - a 320-wide buffer in a 3840-wide window picked the wrong source column for 2430 of 3840 columns, by up to two pixels. It now indexes
floor(j * src / dst)exactly. - [API BREAKAGE] The new
WindowOptions::use_gpufield is a source break for struct literals that do not end in..WindowOptions::default(). Add that (or set the field) when moving from 0.28.
