setup-sight

A GitHub Action that installs the Sight CLI from prebuilt release binaries.

Sight is a static analyzer for the Stata programming language. It reads Stata projects without running them, follows do/run/include chains, and flags issues such as undefined macros, used-before-defined references, and cross-file path problems. In CI, sight check gives Stata projects the kind of fast, side-effect-free pre-merge check that other language ecosystems take for granted.

Sight also powers editor features through the Language Server Protocol: diagnostics, completion, hover, go-to-definition, and other code intelligence use the same static scope model that sight check runs headlessly.

Sight's sibling project Raven provides the same static-analysis and language-server model for R. Together, Sight and Raven bring cross-file navigation, error detection, and code intelligence to two languages widely used in social science research; setup-sight and setup-raven make their headless CLI checks easy to install in CI.

Why this action exists

Sight publishes Bun-compiled binaries on GitHub Releases. Installing one in CI by hand means detecting the runner OS and architecture, selecting the right asset, downloading it, verifying its SHA-256 checksum, renaming it to the stable sight command, and adding it to PATH.

This action does that install step for you. It downloads the matching release binary, verifies the published checksum, adds sight to PATH, and runs sight --version as a smoke test.

It installs only. Beyond the --version smoke test, it does not run sight subcommands; your workflow controls which paths and flags to check.
