In 1918, William Strunk Jr. wrote The Elements of Style—43 pages that distilled English writing to essential rules. Dutch has no equivalent. This guide fills that gap.

Why This Exists

Dutch has detailed references: the Groene Boekje for spelling, Rijksoverheid for government style, EC guidelines for European institutions. But these run hundreds of pages. Professional writers need something shorter. Clear rules, not theory.

This guide condenses official Dutch writing standards into 37 practical rules. It focuses on violations, not theory.
