VSCode IntelliSense
Install the Lua extension for VSCode. The repository .luarc.json already adds docs/lua-api to the Lua workspace library and sets workspace.preloadFileSize high enough for docs/lua-api/lua_api.d.lua.
On Windows, run tools/setup_vscode_lua_api.ps1 from the repository root to also update local .vscode/settings.json workspace settings. The helper keeps .luarc.json aligned and ignores generated build, cache, Visual Studio, and vcpkg directories through workspace.ignoreDir.
For manual setup, add docs/lua-api or docs/lua-api/lua_api.d.lua to the Lua Language Server workspace library. Canary updates these files during startup when generateLuaApiDocs is enabled in config.lua.
Some signatures are inferred from C++ bindings and may use any, argN, or ... until explicit Lua API annotations are added.
Manual Signature Hints
C++ Lua binding handlers and registration lines can override inferred signatures with a /*** */ block immediately before the handler or Lua::register* call. Supported tags are @class, @field, @function, @overload, @param, and @return; functions without docblocks continue to use automatic inference.
