Our Pledge

We as members, contributors, and leaders pledge to make participation in our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, caste, color, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community.

Our Standards

Examples of behavior that contributes to a positive environment for our community include:

✅ Encouraged Behaviors

  • Being respectful and kind - Treating all community members with respect and kindness
  • Being welcoming - Helping newcomers feel welcome and supported
  • Being constructive - Providing helpful feedback and suggestions
  • Being collaborative - Working together towards common goals
  • Being patient - Understanding that people have different skill levels and time constraints
  • Giving credit - Acknowledging others' contributions and work
  • Using inclusive language - Language that welcomes and includes all community members
  • Focusing on what's best for the community - Making decisions that benefit the project and its users
  • Showing empathy - Understanding and respecting different perspectives and experiences
  • Accepting responsibility - Taking ownership of mistakes and learning from them

❌ Unacceptable Behaviors

Examples of unacceptable behavior include:

  • Harassment of any kind - Including unwelcome comments, personal attacks, or discriminatory language
  • Trolling and inflammatory comments - Deliberately provocative or disruptive behavior
  • Public or private harassment - Any form of harassment in any medium
  • Publishing private information - Sharing others' personal information without consent
  • Sexual language or imagery - Inappropriate sexual attention or advances
  • Spam or self-promotion - Excessive promotion of products, services, or personal content
  • Off-topic discussions - Consistently derailing conversations or forums
  • Threatening behavior - Any form of threats, intimidation, or violence
  • Discrimination - Treating people unfairly based on personal characteristics
  • Other conduct inappropriate in a professional setting

Community Guidelines

Communication Standards

  • Use clear, concise language when describing issues or suggestions
  • Provide context when asking for help or reporting problems
  • Search before posting to avoid duplicate discussions
  • Stay on topic in discussions and forums
  • Use appropriate channels for different types of communication

Code Contribution Standards

  • Follow coding standards outlined in the project documentation
  • Write clear commit messages that explain what and why
  • Test your changes before submitting pull requests
  • Document your code appropriately
  • Respect existing architecture and discuss major changes first

Issue Reporting Standards

  • Use clear, descriptive titles for issues and pull requests
  • Provide reproduction steps for bugs
  • Include relevant information such as OS, browser, Ruby version
  • Be patient while maintainers review and respond
  • Follow up appropriately on your submissions

Enforcement Responsibilities

Community leaders are responsible for clarifying and enforcing our standards of acceptable behavior and will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any behavior that they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.

Community leaders have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct, and will communicate reasons for moderation decisions when appropriate.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies within all community spaces, and also applies when an individual is officially representing the community in public spaces. Examples of representing our community include using an official email address, posting via an official social media account, or acting as an appointed representative at an online or offline event.

This includes:

  • GitHub repositories and related discussions
  • Issue trackers and pull requests
  • Community forums and chat channels
  • Social media when representing the project
  • Events and conferences where the project is represented
  • Email communications related to the project

Reporting Guidelines

How to Report

If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please report it by contacting the project maintainers at:

What to Include

When reporting, please include:

  • Your contact information (so we can follow up)
  • Details of the incident including dates, times, and locations
  • Any relevant screenshots or documentation
  • Names of any witnesses (if applicable)
  • Any additional context that might be helpful

Response Process

All complaints will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly. The community leadership team is obligated to maintain confidentiality with regard to the reporter of an incident.

Our commitment:

  • Acknowledge receipt within 48 hours
  • Initial response within 1 week
  • Investigation completion within 2 weeks (complex cases may take longer)
  • Follow-up to ensure the issue is resolved

Enforcement Guidelines

Community leaders will follow these Community Impact Guidelines in determining the consequences for any action they deem in violation of this Code of Conduct:

1. Correction

Community Impact: Use of inappropriate language or other behavior deemed unprofessional or unwelcome in the community.

Consequence: A private, written warning from community leaders, providing clarity around the nature of the violation and an explanation of why the behavior was inappropriate. A public apology may be requested.

2. Warning

Community Impact: A violation through a single incident or series of actions.

Consequence: A warning with consequences for continued behavior. No interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, for a specified period of time. This includes avoiding interactions in community spaces as well as external channels like social media. Violating these terms may lead to a temporary or permanent ban.

3. Temporary Ban

Community Impact: A serious violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior.

Consequence: A temporary ban from any sort of interaction or public communication with the community for a specified period of time. No public or private interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, is allowed during this period. Violating these terms may lead to a permanent ban.

4. Permanent Ban

Community Impact: Demonstrating a pattern of violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior, harassment of an individual, or aggression toward or disparagement of classes of individuals.

Consequence: A permanent ban from any sort of public interaction within the community.

Appeals Process

If you believe you have been unfairly penalized, you may appeal the decision by:

  1. Contacting the maintainers within 30 days of the decision
  2. Providing additional context or information
  3. Requesting a review by different community leaders if possible

Appeals will be reviewed fairly and promptly.

Building a Positive Community

For Contributors

  • Be patient with newcomers and help them learn
  • Provide constructive feedback on code and ideas
  • Celebrate others' successes and contributions
  • Share knowledge and help others grow
  • Ask questions when you're unsure about something

For Maintainers

  • Be responsive to issues and pull requests
  • Provide clear feedback on contributions
  • Maintain consistent standards for code quality
  • Foster inclusive discussions and decision-making
  • Support contributor growth and learning

For Users

  • Report issues clearly with sufficient detail
  • Be patient while issues are being addressed
  • Contribute back when possible
  • Spread positivity about the project
  • Respect the time volunteers put into the project

Recognition

We believe in recognizing positive contributions to our community. We may highlight:

  • Outstanding contributors in release notes
  • Helpful community members in project documentation
  • Innovative features or improvements in project updates
  • Mentorship and support provided to other community members

Resources

Updates

This Code of Conduct may be updated from time to time. When we make changes:

  • We'll notify the community through appropriate channels
  • Changes will be discussed before implementation when significant
  • The effective date will be clearly marked
  • Previous versions will be archived for reference
