Within weeks of the gist, its comment thread became a directory of 200+ implementations. They cluster into a few recognizable shapes. Understanding the clusters tells us where our OKF-conformant, portable-skills angle is differentiated and where it is crowded.

1. Agent skills & plugins

Packages of SKILL.md / plugin files that turn Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, etc. into a wiki maintainer — the shape closest to what we are building.

7. Codebase-doc generators (adjacent lane)

Auto-document a codebase for agents. Most projects in this category generate from a repository rather than ingesting general sources, although openwiki now crosses that boundary with Personal mode. The category overlaps in agent maintenance, AGENTS.md pointers, and scheduled updates.

• openwiki (langchain-ai) — LangChain/DeepAgents CLI; scheduled-PR updates. As of 2026-07 it emits OKF v0.1 bundles and adds a general-knowledge "Personal mode," so it now spans this lane and the general-knowledge lane; its README still documents no equivalent truth-maintenance model. Where OKF sits

A handful of projects target OKF explicitly, and the cohort is growing fast:

• okf-skills (scaccogatto) — Claude Code skills to author/validate/visualize bundles (our closest competitor).
• openknowledge (openknowledge-sh) — a Go CLI with a registry, viewer, exporters, and agent maintenance loop (the most tooling-complete).
• kiso (oak-invest) — a Java engine that publishes bundles as static sites (the consumer side).
• okf-harness (pumblus) — an agent-first local harness for OKF wikis.
• openwiki (langchain-ai) — an OKF v0.1 producer spanning code documentation and connector-backed personal knowledge.

The vast majority of the ecosystem still reinvents a bespoke on-disk convention. But the OKF-native cohort is now real and moving fast — okf-skills (skills), openknowledge (CLI + registry), openwiki (code/personal producer), and kiso (publisher) bracket authoring, ingestion, tooling, and consumption. Our remaining gap is narrower and stronger: portable skills that maintain a conformant bundle with explicit provenance, successor history, conflicts, and exhaustive propagation into derived knowledge. With several teams shipping OKF tooling, our value has to be the truth-maintenance loop and portability seam, not another author/validate/visualize trio.
